Santander Preferred Overdraft Rate Help

Hi,

I wonder if anyone could help me. I signed up for the Santander Preferred Overdraft in July 2010 as I was looking to take advantage of the 0% overdraft as I had a £1400 overdraft with HSBC. Did Santander ever offer an £100 incentive for transferring to this deal as I thought I saw it at the time?

I went through all the process (which took over 2 and a half months before they eventually sorted out my overdraft) and phoned up a number of times querying when the £100 would be credited.

I phoned up and they said that it was missed off the last payment run and would be paid in the next one which was w/c 6th December. When I recently phoned to check that I was setup for the payment, I was informed that I had been told wrongly and the payment could be done within 7-10 days instead. They also said a complaints form would be sent out to me. I have now received a letter saying I am not entitled to the £100 as I got the Preferred Overdraft account rather than the current account.

When I went through my old information from them, I found a document welcoming me to Santander and saying my account was now set up. In the top right hand corner was a note saying transfer my direct debits and pay in the required amount each month and I would be entitled to £100. There was an asterisk next to it saying that this deal could be limited or withdrawn.

Do I have a case for the £100 (which I feel I deserve for the number of times I've had to phone due to their terrible customer service). On the number of occasions I've phoned, including asking about the £100, no one ever told me it was not applicable to me.

Thanks in advance.
Graham

The Preferred Overdraft Rate switch was never part of the £100 incentive this was clearly stated in the T&Cs only PICR, Reward and Zero switchers qualified.

    Souce: Santander Branch Employee

If you opened it online you have no case at all as you did not read the T&Cs. If you opened it in a branch and were told you would receive £100 you may have a case. But don't walk into a branch and try and say you opened it there, because we can see ;)
You are not eligible for this offer if you currently hold, or have held in the past three months, any Santander UK, Alliance & Leicester, cahoot and Cater Allen current account. Offer is only open to customers accepted for a Preferred In Credit Rate, Reward, Zero or Premium account. £100 will be paid into your new account within 3 months of account opening providing you have at least one active direct debit (paid at least once) set up on the account within 11 weeks and have paid in at least £1,000 each month. If you do not have any direct debits to switch you will not receive £100. Limit of one £100 switcher account per person. Offer is limited and may be withdrawn at any time.
