laminate flooring- is it worth the headache?

We have bought laminate flooring for our hallway and kitchen (about 15sqm) we thought it would look nice but its becoming a massive pain with laying costs? Looking at about £350/£400 and our two other rooms were less than that for carpet.

Its awkward as there are several doorways with fluted feet that would require cutting into. One guy told us we woudl need beading and others are now saying we don't...my head is spinning a bit! help!

we have laminate in all the main rooms. all fitted by myself. easy enough job.
not in the bathroom nor the kitchen, they are tiled.
the stairs and hallways are carpet.

the best trick ive learnt is not to use the expensive beading. remove the skirting instead, and replace afterwards.
all the rooms came out far cheaper than laying carpet.
    Get some gorm.

thanks...well maybe we will have a go then. its just a very awkward space with doors etc. We can't take skirting off as its old victorian stuff and would break and is about 2ft deep.

Done the same rooms the same way....removing the Skirting is the best way and gives a better finish

    £27 a metre fitted based on £400 and 15m2!

That price is an utter joke! If it was real wood - maybe - but for laminate - no chance - no matter how "awkward" it is. Get some more quotes.

You could get someone to tile a floor from £30 m2 and is much more durable and classy.

If you do go with the laminate it is much better to remove skirting and then replace over the expansion gap as Ormus has stated - that is what we did too.

How much did the laminate cost?
  • My fitter is currently fitting my laminate in two large rooms (dining and living) and my hallway for £400 - 3 days work. You need to get more quotes.
