If I power on with the wireless disabled, it goes through the power-up sequence to the login screen (though I think the font is "slightly" different). If I login from here I can get to my desktop but I cannot turn the wireless back on. It crashes after a while, even if I am not doing anything.
If I power on with the wireless enabled, the laptop crashes before it completes the power-up sequence.
Can anyone help?

I would suggest re-installing the wireless drivers and software, however, due to the fact its completely freezing up, I would think its a hardware fault. Most likely the wireless chipset or the motherboard.
If it's still under warranty I would consult the manufacturer. What make and model is the laptop? If not under warranty I would suggest taking it to a reputable PC repair shop (NOT PC World
