Just had my E-on Electricity bill

Received my bill this morning, one part says 'Payments & adjustments' in that section £492.00 in credit.

Another section say 'Discounts & rewards' in that section £14.84 credit.

Another section says 'Your new balance - you're in debit' £24.74

Another section says 'We've estimated you electricity meter reading' 3605 my reading is 3465 so I phoned up 0845 # then my revised bill is now £11.07

I never got a a card through the door saying I was out when a reader came round plus I'm confused with all this credit stuff then I'm being charged.
I'm on an E-on EneryPlan.

They dont always leave cards and dont always call round either, they estimate your bill - Eon now have the facility to give them readings 4 times a year online to enable them to get your bills more accurate :)

    Hi Col7777,

The first bit of the bill for payments and adjustments is the payments that you have made, from your post and the credit you have stated it appears you pay by monthly Direct Debit.

The 'Discounts & rewards' is the discount for paying by monthly Direct Debit, so again shows as a credit.

As you have now given up to date readings you owe £11.07, so you have used slightly more than you have paid, therefore, leaving the small amount to pay.

As nancyo has said, you can provide your own readings to stop estimated bills, E.ON are happy to bill customers to their own readings.

I would also ask E.ON about different tariffs that may offer you a better discount or better benefits, especially if you are already paying by Direct Debit.

You can also pop your consumption in kWh on to a comparison site.

I will be more than happy to do this for you, just send me your details to the address in my profile page.

Hi col7777 - If you are new to all this, they don't make it easy but keep working at it till you do understand - I actually re-work the whole bill on a form set up on my computer which helps to understand what figures they get from where.

If you really don't have the time, there are 2 things you must do
    1) Always check that the Start reading on a new bill matches the End reading on the previous bill
    2) NEVER EVER accept an Estimated bill, ALWAYS phone in your meter reading as soon as you get one

    Hi Helena,

First let me thank you for your interest and help, I looked to PM you but couldn't find that facility, there is something else you need to know but it is a long story I'll try to be brief:

About 6 months ago I got a card through the door asking for my meter reading, I thought this strange as I had not long had a man round to read it so I phoned E-on.
I got a shock, (no pun intended) the guy at E-on said going off the reading I had just given him I owed over £1000.
I asked him to repaet it because I thought I heard wrong but he said it again, it appears because I worked shifts I was not in a lot of the times a reader came round, but my bills were always in credit so I never bothered to phone a reading in, yes my mistake.
Any way to cut it short I was transfered to another lady who arranged for me to have a new meter fitted in case my old one was faulty, this was done and now I'm paying off the £1000 plus in monthly installments.
So all those estimates were wrong, they admitted they had estimated me too low and that is why I owed so much, but because I never phoned a reading in they thought everything was OK, but as I say because I thought I was in credit I didn't bother.

    Hi Col7777,

You can email me at WebForumAdvisors@eonenergy.com, this email address is in my profile page.

So it sounds like your account was previously under estimated for some time, resulting in a large catch up bill once the account had been billed up to date.

From what you have said, it appears that this is now sorted and you have been paying off the balance.

I will still be able to help you with the tariffs, if you would like me to, just send me your details.

    Helena :)

    Hi E.ON Company Representative: Helena
In you message above, you say that you can provide your own readings. I am in the process of switching from Scottish Power to E.ON and would like to know whether the customer meter readings can be submitted on-line and with what frequency?
I ask because I have become used to entering my meter readings monthly so as to get as accurate bills as possible.
    Thanks in anticipation

    Hi robbieroy,

You can enter your readings online 6 times per quarter, the best thing to do is to enter a read a few days before the bill is due (the bill date will show on the online account). This read will then be used to produce your bill.

Hi col7777 - Just read your Post #6 and found it a bit worrying
Thro' a long history of Estimated readings you built up a big debt, whilst this is common enough, what is not common is that the supplier changes the meter on a "Just in case" basis

Basically you paying a debt caused by Estimated billing, based on an actual meter reading taken from a meter which the supplier themselves regard as 'Suspect'

If you have not kept all your past bills, Eon will supply copies when asked - From these establish what the meter read when you moved in, and it's End reading when it was taken out. Then by combining these figures with how long you have been the House/Flat, you will know how many units this meter recorded for one years supply

Write E.on pointing out you are unhappy that Billed Debt caused by estimated billing, has been based on readings from a suspect meter, and that you want the whole bill reviewed on the basis of the readings from your new meter at it's one year anniversary and put this date in your diary so you read the meter
