    OP - have you ever downloaded hijack this before? Are your time and date settings correct?

    Time and date settings seems to be correct, hijack rings a bell but I think it was on another computer not this laptop, this morning bullguard keep telling me a trojan called setup.exe is attacking me 5 times so far only been online for 5 mins, I did a system restore last night and at least I can use the internet now but windows is up the wall, cant do any updates and wont connect me to microsoft:(

    Just had a look at post 12 with the hijack log, I didnt have this laptop on that date I bought it from new the following month:eek:

    and I now have three start up buttons lined up behind each other and lost all colour from tool bars:(

    eta - also keep getting a message to say host service has closed to protect my computer:(

    I know this might seem like a bit of overkill but i would back up all my important data insert your windows cd and wipe the system
    Its the only 100% way you can guarantee that you have eradicated everything.
    The amount of time you spend trying to get rid of this you probably could be back up and running with a clean system

    Youd be safer using FIREFOX with the NOSCRIPT plugin in future (The virus probably came via a website script)
