Damp conservatory floor, big worry :-(

Hi,

I am currently in the middle of a renovation project in a 1920s house.

We have uncovered some bad things which we have worked our way through and things were finally starting to get positive putting the place back together.

It has been a bit of a bad week :-
  • The sparks cut a spot light hole in the wrong place through the freshly plastered ceiling.
  • The new stop tap started leaking.
  • I stored an expensive door frame in the conservatory (wrapped and covered) which I think due to the dampness (which I am about to explain) probably needs chucked out as I reckon it will warp as it dries out.
Anyway aside from these when I felt the door frame was a little damp I lifted the lino in the conservatory to find the concrete floor is soaking not just a little damp absolutely ringing wet.

I haven’t had a chance to assess where the water is coming from yet but it made me want to cry.

Anyone any ideas what it could be? If it is rising damp can I just seal the floor with epoxy paint as I can’t afford to dig it up or knock the conservatory down :-(

Cheers D

Until you find out where the water is comming from it's hard to say.

Is there any chance of a leak and the water is sitting between the lino and floor?

Yeah I apreciate that until I take a better look at it and work out where it is coming from its hard to help. Sorry.

I had to rush out the house to get somewhere just after discovering it :-(

It seemed too wet to be rising damp so I am hopeful it is a leak!

Could it even be condensation running down the walls finding its way under the lino and then not having anywhere to go?

Sitting at work in a total dream today just have awful thoughs running through my head of having to dig it all up or knock the conservatory down.

In the long run we hope to replace it but have no spare £ with all the other work going on :-(

I would have thought you may have noticed the condensation.

    An update!

I have looked at the conservatory and it seems that there is a silicon seal the whole way round between the walls window frames and the concrete floor. I think this has just failed.

I will take up the vinal to let it dry out. Epoxy the concrete and reseal the base and walls.

This seal does seem a bit unusual to me? Is this normal?

The conservatory has no brick work. It is just UPVC (I think) walls and a concrete base!

On the floor? The walls are all UPVC so can't be painted.
