Internet protection software for children

Can anyone recommend from personal experience 'parental control' software for fairly young children (younger than 10) which is easy to configure, causes no other problems on the computer, and (if possible) is free?

Most costive Internet Security Suites contain this feature, and there's always Net Nanny, or even OpenDNS can restrict websites visited. K9 is free.

Comments on these or any other sensible methods would be appreciated!

  • I have used OpenDNS for 3 years with no problems at all....
  • I currently use Microsoft family safety. I like the way the kids can ask for sites to be enabled, and I can decide without actually having to use their PCs, I can log into hotmail (windows live) and enable/disable sites, allow apps to run (or not), even restrict all use of the PC at certain times (1 hour blocks, so at 10pm my kids' PCs become inoperable, and continue that way until 6am the following morning)
It also gives me a list of sites they've visited, or attempted to visit..there's no hiding :)

Thanks to you both! I have never even heard of "Microsoft Family Safety", but will look it up.
