Friend has a Perodua Nippa on a T plate. It has been out of commission due to water leak. Had a chance to have a quick look at it. Water was leaking beneath the air filter box. When i removed the cover and filter there was water inside the air filter box. First time i had seen this. The engine oil looks okay in a way that there is no water mixed with it. Had no proper tools to remove air box.

Any idea why there is water in the air filter box?

Is the throttle body in the centre of the filter? Could it be being pushed in through the intake at the front?

Don't really understand what you mean by pushed in by the intake.

The air filter unit is rectangular. A pipe leaves it to join the intake which is away from and behind the unit.

Remove spark plugs and turn over engine too see if there's water in the cylinders.

The engine starts up with no problems. After a while water coolant leaks and engine overheats

^^ So the problem really is coolant leak and the airbox is little more than a symptom of that?

Update - checked the car out. There is a leak around the thermostat housing, seems like it needs a new gasket. Difficult access so a job for the garage.

As for the water in the airbox i feel it is due to lack of use or very short runs causing condensation in the breather system. will look into it further once the leak is fixed
