DVD RECORDERS -Reviews & Best Prices

Hi,
I have been desperately trying to buy a DVD recorder for several months now, and so far I have purchased 3 and have had to take them all back because they didn't work.
The firs 2 were Goodmans and one had been used (bought from argos with vouchers) so took it back for a new one and the second wouldn't record too much of the time.
The 3rd one was a Panasonic DMR-ES10
This one I purchased refurbished and this also would not record most of the time, I was able to finalise about 20% of the dvds I made, which is not good enough. Perhaps it's because it was refurbished, I will be happy to buy a new version of this is more people tell me it's a good recorder.
So my experiences have made me so scared to purchase another DVD Recorder but I desperately need one, soooo.......
I propose that everyone who has a DVD Recorder, could you please put in this thread, a review about the item.
For example:
Make
Model
Purchase price
DVD formats accepted
Rate of failed disks (what is the ratio of disks that fail to work)
Ease of use
General Comments
There are far too few reviews on the net and I have looked, so if we could combine our knowledge this will be a useful thread.
Also if anyone knows of any special offers on DVD Recorders please include those too, please.
I will be very grateful for anyone who gives a review as this will aid in my decision for DVD Recorder number 4, hopefully 4th time lucky.

Hi,
Myself and my dad both have Panasonic dvd recorders and they are SUPERB!!!
Easy to use and I have had no failed discs so far.
Best place to buy them from is Richer Sounds (https://www.richersounds.co.uk) as they are cheap and give a very good customer service.
My dad has a Hard Drive on his which you can store things on in addition to dvd discs.
I tend to use DVD-RAM as you can record on them many times.
I love the option where it has small screens showing what each programme is on the discs all playing in real time.
Ob have to check whether the machine is DVD- or DVD+ when buying the discs. Also mine doesn't take DVD-RW.
Both never had a problem with ours.
One on Richer Sounds for £119 which was also a best buy as well.
Hope this helps.0 -
I have just got (yesterday) a panasonic dmrez25 - at a bargain price of £187.00! havent quite worked out how it all goes together yest hence posting on techie board (unreplied so far!) It hasnt got a hard drive as we have sky plus so dont need it. seems to accept most forms of dvd. even though its not properly set up yet I still recorded something last night from sky plus (wallace and grommit!!) so seems to be working all ok apart from the set up part. Oh! got it from AJ electronics. cant fault the service and cheapnes compared to panasonic shop here who wanted another £42 for same thing. postage was free too!0

Lite-On LVW5006
Top bit of kit, plays and records on to almost anything.
Simple to set up and use.
Made multi-region with a handset hack.
A bargain at about £100....and then the window licker said to me...0 -
I'm looking for a dvd recorder as well for Christmas. I'd like one with a hard drive on it to store shows that way we don't have to keep buying dvd's or dvd-rw's.0

Model
Pioneer 420 HDD (I think - too lazy to go downstairs to check!)
Purchase price
Around about £270 (2 years ago)
DVD formats accepted
Records onto DVD-R, say's it plays all formats (I paid an extra £10 for multi-region)
Rate of failed disks (what is the ratio of disks that fail to work)
Never had a failed disc as of yet.
Ease of use
Easy to set up and programme recording timer. Very easy to edit and chapter recordings on harddrive. Easy to copy onto discs (see note below)
General Comments
The harddrive holds many hours of TV programmes which you can either delete when you have watched them or you can easily copy them onto disc. I usually cut out all the adverts of a programme before putting it onto a disc.

Works with Scientific Antlanta 4000DVB Telwest Cable Box, Can change the chanels & Everything.
Can copy from tv-hdd, hdd-dvd, hdd-vhs, vhs-hdd, vhs-dvd etc...
Bit on the steep side, but does everything in 1 box.

Seems strange that you have had 3 recorders and had problems, it could very well be the media you are using can you tell me what brand the disks are you are using, it pays to get good quality disks as cheapo ones can cause problems0

I've tried about 6 different brands of disks as I thought that might be the problem - don't think it was.My darling boy born December 20110

Depends, as the disks could all be the same dye just a different brand on the front u see.0
