If you can show that your car passed its MoT easily it would show that it must have been OK when you had your accident. The insurance co. would be hard pressed to say it was unroadworthy at the time.0

i drove my car into a post a couple of months ago, and claimed my insurance (post office) with no trouble at all. they didnt ask about my MOT and the car wasnt MOTed at the time as well. I think they will be fine by it, normally, they will just send someone down to the garage to have a look at ur car, and approve the repair if the car isnt dodgy or anything.
my repair probably costed them 500 pounds, i hope my information helps..0 -
MOT's only confirm the vehicle was roadworthy when it was in the MOT station. Anyone can change wheels, exhausts, lights, etc once they leave the station.
The likelyhood on a claim where the vehicle is not written off is that it will make no difference. Whereas, if written off they would pay out on the value of a vehicle as though being bought without an MOT as happened to my sister when she rolled her car, they paid out around a £1000 less than the original offer when she found out the MOT had expired a few weeks earlier which she hadn't realised.Welcome, rogerramjet.

I think you are being a little naive to suggest "no one might realise"
No MOT=No Insurance
With another party and insurance company invoved I'd say it will raise its ugly head very soon. Insurance companies prefer not to pay out
Good luck though, post and tell us how you got on0 -

The car has an MOT now, how do the insurance company find out it didn't have one when the accident happened?0 -

Simple, you don't produce the old MOT (or a garage copy if you lost it), they don't pay. Insurance companies were lax in the past but they are getting cute i.e checking everything is in order before paying out. When all is said and done they are going to protect their investments.0 -
And stopping fraud like saying the car had an MOT when it didnt. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Ah but these days that's just a small detail...0 -
Hi, thanks to everyone on this thread for their advice.
I can confirm that insurance company at the weekend sent a letter stating that the claim would be met and covered. There was no mention of the MOT issue.
I am guessing because this was merely a repair and not a total loss it was not so relevant and the fact the car has a current MOT could have been favourable.
In the past however I cannot remember MOT details being checked for a claim, but it will interesting to see what happen's with the new database in the future.0
