Just thought I'd update - am now a homeowner (well mortgage-owner)

House saga all completed, exchanged last week - followed by hubby going down with man-flu so bad I was checking his life insurance policy was up to date, leaving muggins here with ten boxes of HIS books and assorted other stuff to move by hand. Then I collapsed with the flu as well (only mine was woman flu so the proper thing).
Anyway - despite snow, freezing fog, rain and everything else the British climate could throw at us (I seriously don't recommend carrying furniture down the road on sheet ice and I doubt my sofas will ever be the same again) - we're finally moved in!
Noteable casualties in the move were the washing machine which decided to pack up for good, the wall in the bedroom which came out with half of the fitted monstrosity wardrobes meaning we can't move into that room till we get the wall reskimmed and a new carpet down... oh and my dear hubby's finally shaken off the entire family taunting him for drilling through an electric cable - as his father did exactly the same thing... think my sanity was lost somewhere under the snow as well. The cat appears to have finally forgiven us - letting her bake herself in front of the gas fire all day bought her loyalty back after endless sulking!
The horrid damp/not damp issue that we had after the survey came back seems to be pretty much resolved - a few days of living in the place and it's lost that vague empty house damp air altogether - oh and some nice paint colours to make it feel lived in as well (and not a pot of magnolia in sight... after years of renting - the absence of magnolia is sheer bliss!)
Now vowing that the next time I move house - I'll be dragged out in a wooden coffin!
Thanks to all on here who gave us the knowledge to have a vague clue what we were doing with it all... don't suppose you guys know where the key to the patio doors are because no one else on the planet seems to!

well done dizzy.. aint it great to have your own place....hope all goes well......as for the patio door keys, try looking above the doors or in an old unused drawer somewhere. i think we had the same problem in one of our moves, i think it took us 2 yrs of using a kitchen backdoor before we finally found a little keyring with a couple of keys on it...
oh, and as for your hubby with manflu, the poor bloke, dont you realise what a serious illness this is.. here are some proper medical facts about manflu :
Symptoms ManFlu can manifest itself in many ways, the list below will outline some of the more common symptoms but the list could go on for ever, think of it as a score card, the more of the symptoms you tot up below, the more severe his symptoms will be and will probably go on developing more from the list if you do not nip it in the bud and carry out some of our recomendations without question and with unconditional love, only that way will you be sure of a full recovery and that ManFlu will not lay dormant and come back at a later date only more severe !
Watch for these signs that your man may be suffering- He cannot give you a concise breakdown of his symptoms and relies on 'it hurts everywhere'.
- his is a competitive ailment, so if you point out you suffered from the same thing but struggled through and recovered he responds: "Oh, but this is much worse."
- He retreats to bed or the sofa and appears nervous at the thought of moving, especially when the word 'work' is used or if the phrase "get it yourself" is used in anger.
- He may be found watching daytime programmes such as Jeremy Kyle or his favourite football DVD.
- Men suffering from man flu are often unable to carry out their normal chores. If challenged they may sigh heavily, look martyred and state: "I am ill you know".
- The patient may also pore over an A-Z guide to health problems or trawl medical sites on the internet, with a resulting rise in the number and severity of symptoms.
Now you've seen the symptoms read the hints and tips section to find out how you can help your loved one. Failure to treat MANFLU effectively COULD lead to 'acute' MANFLU, a rare disorder that renders your man totally inept, something he may never recover from, once a man has had 'acute' MANFLU he will be prone to regular bouts of MANFLU which current research suggests may occur on an annual basis. Therefore it is in your best interest to treat your man with love and a great deal of pampering.
Good Luck, you're going to need it !!!

LOL - dizzi - loved your post. Congratulations you are officially a home owner and no more EA/sols to deal with!!! I am completing tomorrow and am dreading the actual move but I am sure you will emphathise with me when I say that the hugest relief will be felt when the EA tells me the keys are ready for collection! Even after exchange I have been a nervous wreck (although not as bad as before!) and am paranoid something is going to go wrong. LOL. Get me through the next 24 hours....0
