Printing to correct size from a pdf. file

I have saved a free sewing pattern offered as a pdf. file, but when I printed the first page as a test the scale is measuring 9cm whereas it should be 10cm. Anyone out there know how to make it print at the right scale? I think I have got the printer dialogue box set to print to size, but idiotproof instructions probably wouldn't go amiss:D

Just to push my luck I would actually like to increase it about 10% bigger than the original. Is that possible, or will I need to get that bit done at a photocopy place, which is fine- still cheaper than buying a pattern at £10 a pop, but if there is a way of doing it free so much the better.

    Try looking at:
    File > Print
Then click on the 'properties' button by the printer name
Click on the Paper/Quality Tab at the top
You can use the customise button to set the paper size to whatever you want

If that doesn't work (not sure whether that scales the document or cuts off things over the edge)

try the effects tab in the properties window and you can resize the document to a bigger percentage compared to it's original size - so if you have something at 9cm that you really want as 11cm, I make that a percentage of 122% (takes you to 10.98cm if that is accurate enough)

hth - if not, post again and i'll have a think!

    Thanks.

I had to copy the pdf. over the network to DH's desktop because the printer is attached to that, to be able to open the properties box. I set the paper to letter size which is larger and what the website seemed to expect to be used (aimed at the US I expect), but that didn't alter the size of the image it just printed it starting some way down the sheet and nearly cut the bottom off :D

There does not appear to be an effects tab in the properties box. I clicked on all the tabs but couldn't find one with anything about scaling.

For some reason that I cannot fathom just printing from DH's machine increases the size to 9.5cm any way so I may settle for that - it isn't clothing so the size is desirable rather than critical.

This pattern is to make something for a Christmas present. Would you believe it - the intended recipient has just come home unexpectedly and walked in on me    the pattern is also given as umpteen (something like 30 ) jpg. format pages but that is not recommended as it is less likely to be printed to size - I know it would be a lot of faffing but do you think that might be better, scaling them in a program like "Paint" (which is all that I have as I am pretty hopeless at this sort of thing  actual sewing and cooking are more my thing

  • I have just tried to print a drawing at work to see what options adobe gave me. If you go to 'print' in the file drop down menu, there is an option in the lower right quarter of the print options page sections that allows you to check a 'Choose paper source by pdf page size' tick box. This should correct the page to the right size, therefore the image to the right scale.

Thanks. Checking that and having page scaling set to "none" has increased it to 9.5cm. i think it is because the pdf. is designed for letter size paper.
