Halfords store card help

Options
Hi about 5 years ago I went to halfords and bought a CD player on their Halfords Edge Card (store card) the stereo was £279 all was fine, as my funds have been getting a little tight at the moment I decided to review my bank statements to try and cut down on uneeded things and noticed Direct Debit - Santander Cards Uk for around £8 a month.

The only thing I could put this down to was maybe the halfords edge card, after getting a few funny looks from halfords staff I found out they sold there edge card to GE Money then they sold it on to Santander.

Anyhow I managed to get in touch with Santander to inquire about the debt as I found it a little funny I was still paying it off after 5 years to which they told me my outstanding balance is £208 because they have been charging around £6-7 interest and thus I haven't been touching the balance, I had no contact from any of these company's since they sold the debt.

Is there anything I can do about this ? I know its not a big debt but it seems at the moment I'll be paying them £8 a month for the rest of my life

ps: sorry if this is the wrong forum to post in or my post is hard to understand :rotfl:

So you bought a stereo, paid for it on an Edge card, only made minimum payments and now wonder why there is still a balance on the card !! Pay off the balance or make higher payments and it will go away, the bigger the payment the quicker it will disappear. No wonder money is tight if you havn't looked at your bank statements for 5 years !!

The debt has not been sold, Santander bought the GE Money card business. The Edge card was always GE as far as I remember.

FWIW: Halford's no longer accept Edge cards - not sure who else still accepts it, other than Comet...
