Baliff Coming Tomorrow!!

I had a hand delivered letter this evening saying that I must pay £291.31 tomorrow or the car will be taken away.
So I called the bailiff and told them the car is not mine (its my boyfriends) and she said she will be coming tomorrow with a van which will cost £400 and that will be added to the dept.
Anyway I told them I wont open the doors and windows so they wont be able to access the property, and I havent got that kind of money.
I get working tax credit, Housing benefit & Council Tax
Anyway she said she does not care and will keep coming for as long as it takes and adding charges
I have just spoke to deptline and the lady said the bailiff are allowed to get a locksmith to get in!!!!! Now im really worried
I want to pay but I simply do not have the money, I dont even know how Im going to pay for Xmas

Amount owing £135.31
Bailiff costs £156

The company is Equita, please can anyone shed any light on what I can do about this please????

Thank you
Kelly

O.k - let's start at the begining - is this a council tax debt? It's not a repossession warrant is it? Obviously depending on what it is different answers apply.
Assuming its council tax then I've never heard they can get a locksmith - that certainly doesn't sound right to me.
You are correct that they can't levy on a car that's not yours and as for charging a van fee -:mad:.
Have they ever been in your house?
Have the council got a liability order for the council tax owed? if so it would say how much you owe before any bailiff fees are added on - is this correct - have the benefits been added on correctly? are you getting singler person discount if applicable?

    Thank you for your replys
Yes sorry its a council tax debt, I have already paid some off on the internet, I was paying £10 per week but I couldnt afford it any longer and stopped paying which I know was stupid. I did try to phone them on several occassions to say that I couldnt afford to pay this much but there phone line just kept telling me to call the bailiff who I knew wouldnt be interested in taking installments.
They have not been in my house
The letter says I owe £135 and bailiff costs are £156!!!!

I dont get single person discount but me and my partner get full council tax benefit at the moment.

So was you partner in the household when this debt was run up?

And exactly how is the £156 fee broken down?

Well unfortunately that means they can levy on the car. Unless it is vital for your OH's work or something like that.

You need a breakdown of the bailiff charges.

And to stave them off for a short time.

    back in a mo.

At any point have the bailiffs been in to the property and itemised anything, ie a walk in possession?

Whose name is the debt in and you say you are now getting full Council Tax benefit at the moment. Are you working or are you getting benefits?
