Working Tax Credits

Hi, I recently done a change of circumstances, this was my girlfriend moving in and I had recently lost my job. So I informed WTC of both new changes and they have updated my claim but using last years earning for us both being at work.

If I phone them and tell them that my income is not at 2010 levals will it be re-calculated as I was under the impression that a lower income would mean my WTC would be re-calculated on my new lower leval and not the 2010 incomes

Thanks

  • Hey, I had the same problem recently when my partner moved in. When you phone tax credits tell them that you want to predict your income for the up coming tax year 2010 therefore they will then look at the income your recieving now which will be less than previously. :jJust be careful when you fill in the new claim form as I wasn't and they ended up looking at our combined income which was alot more than this year (partner is a student on nil income) and it was a bit of a pain as it meant we had to wait ages for a payment! Hope this been of some help!

Snuggs, sorry to hijack but I have just called the tax credits helpline as we need to work out exactly what our position will be, I am thinking of going to do a post-grad as a full time student but I currently earn a decent salary.

From September, my share of the household income would effectively be nil, but the online calculator and the bloke at the helpline have said they go off the previous complete tax year, which obviously won't make any difference at all to our tax credits yet we will be a hell of a lot less ....

Are you saying you can apply using your forthcoming income for the tax year 11-12, and they will accept this (unless you earn loads more by the end of the year and they will come a knockin') ?

Similar question to the OP really !

This could be the information that makes or breaks my options ....

    Thanks,
