Is it worth switching?

I am currently with SP on their fix and flex April 2011, I input our details into a comparison site last night and it came up that based on 12 months usage we could save £190 with Eon Saveonline 4 dual fuel and £180 with EDF online Saver V7. Now I know that I can get £80 cashback via quidco with EDF and also a £100 welcome bonus so obviously this works out the cheapest but I have to admit to being a switching virgin:o:o and am worried in case I move and it isn't in fact cheaper and the website was wrong?? (it was the one in the mse newsletter)

I think I have to pay a £50 leaving charge aswell, there was a SP tariff that was £160 cheaper than my current one aswell it was called online energy saver 12.

so confused any help would be appreciated:o

I would suggest contacting SP and seeing if you can get that £160 p.a. cheaper tariff and not suffer the £50 early exit fee as you would be staying with them.

If so, you could save immediately, as opposed to waiting the typical 4-6 weeks switching time.
I would also suggest that EDF are likely to increase their prices come March.
SP have already increased theres so hopefully no more increases from them.

Edit: So if I understand correctly you applied for a fixed price tariff some time ago, and despite a price rise on their variable tariffs, you are still paying over £160 per year extra?
What was it that persuaded you to take such an expensive option in the first place?

Yes unfortunately I spoke to someone at SP who told us this was the cheapest tariff for us and I didn't think to look around myself:o:o:o:o

That might be worth making a complaint over ;)

Whilst you obviously wouldn't expect a supplier to inform you that one of their competitors is cheaper, you do expect best advice from the supplier over their own range of products.

Even if they disagree with your complaint, they might offer you a goodwill gesture - they are usually a minimum of £20 :)
