CO alarm, is it faulty?

Came home to the sound of my CO alarm beeping so I turned off my heating and moved the alarm outside to shut it up.
The thing is, it didn't shut up. It kept beeping.
So I removed the battery for a while then replaced it, it still beeped, so I got a new battery and it still beeps.
So outside in the snow is my CO alarm beeping away.
Till I took the battery out again.
So is there a deadly amount of CO in the atmosphere? Most unlikely.
Then I remembered that my 2 smoke alarms are also CO alarms, they were bought to replace previous smoke alarms after I had bought the CO alarm and were in a sale and cheaper than smoke only alarms.
I checked the combined CO/smoke alarms and they are OK so as I was getting cold I turned on my heating and they are not sounding an alarm.
So put another battery in the CO only alarm and off it goes beeping again.
So 3 CO alarms and one beeps even after changing the battery, must be faulty?
Is there any way I can find out for sure or just bin it and buy another?
It is only 18 months old.
