Nails/screws in tyre's is one of those those things thats ALWAYS puzzled me..... WHO the hell puts them on the road??????

Sometimes this happens where there are secret parking disputes. You part in a spot where someone else has been parking for 5 years (EVEN if the space is in front of your own house!) and suddenly your cars been keyed or something.

There have even been cases where OAP's have damaged cars because they were an "eyesore" parked down the street.

Placing nails/screws against/under wheels is not uncommon, my advice is to always reverse a few inches before driving off (this causes the nail or screw to fall flat) OR check your tyre's before you get in.

Get real Strider, the only cars that get damaged in the roads near me are by drunken spotty faced yobs on a Friday / Saturday night.

You can't repair a puncuture in the tread if it's too close to the side wall.
You can it's called vulcanizing, is a dear job, but not totally un-heard off.

Goto most of the part worn tyre places and you will find tyres that have been repaired. Most likely some
poor soul had to fork out for a new tyre because they refused to repair it.

Then flog it out the backdoor.

They are not always " illegals " many of them come from, lets say quite recent EU countries.

    Many are actually Spanish.
  • Interesting answers, thanks. Now I have had a day to let steam I'm going to let it go, and mention it to the several neighbours with whom I'm friendly with so they can keep an eye out. It has transpired that one of my older neighbours had had it happen to her too, recently two of her tyres at the same time. She is struggling along with her pension and let her car sit for a while because she couldn't afford to sort it out. Makes me very cross if someone is actually doing this on purpose...
