Still not exchanged - Vendor Delays!

I'm still waiting on the vendor to instruct his solicitor to accept the £1500 retention (for issues with the gas and radiators, due to not being able to produce the relevant paperwork). This has apparently been all agreed, but for the past two weeks I've seen no movement and the vendor is already living out in Dubai. The vendors wife was supposed to drop in to the EA yesterday, but didn't turn up. The vendor's solicitor has had problems with language barriers based on some of the questions my solicitor has asked, including providing the correct paperwork for certificates and guarantees with stuff such as the double glazing.
I'm sure my solicitor is doing a thorough job, however I've been camping out on a friend's sofa bed for 5 weeks now waiting for contracts etc to be exchanged.
The EA keeps saying its all in the hands of the solicitors. The mortgage has already been agreed and signed by the bank, who are just waiting on an instruction from my solicitor.
There is no chain, the house is vacant and I'm a first time buyer.
Is there any way I can help speed the process along?
