British Gas Energy Smart question

I have just looked at going onto BG's Energy Smart system but in order to do so I have to change my tariff. I am currently on Websaver5 for both gas and electricity; I switched earlier this year to them from EDF.
The tariffs it wants me to go for are any one of:
Online Saver3
Price Promise October 2012
Future Energy Plus
Standard
Does anyone have any sugesstions as to the best thing for me to do - switch to one of theses and if so which is the best, or stay as I am and forget Energy Smart?
Thanks
Lynne

Hello Lynne
I would also like to know just how EnergySmart might 'help' ensure I end up with a better overall less costly 'fuel consumption'?
Similarly to you I am currently on (dual fuel) WebSaver 8 (recently moved from Southern Electric, then BG increased prices of course!) and am probably as bewildered as you regarding the tariff options associated with changing over to it...?
I had been considering buying an electricity monitor anyway ... pity it won't monitor gas usage though, less easy I guess?
Having got an iPhone the BG App seems a really good idea, with prompts for submitting monthly readings... shame BG don't seem to want to advise us which tariff best - bit concerned about the economics of the Price Promise Oct 2012 ...
PS: Someone here said that the BG monitor is mains powered - does that mean does not send info wirelessly from meter connection clip... anyone know the details?0 -
Hi Jakx
I put my details into USwitch and none of the BG options came up on the list of recommended tariffs, even the ones that cost more than I am currently on. It's a bit worrying.

To find out how much more the BG Online 3 with energysmart will be, simply input your annual usage on your current tariff and then on the next screen you get the option to choose 'show only accurate monthly billing tariffs' or words to that effect. the BG options (and normally first:utility) will then show on the next screen, with prices equating to your usage. Thanks for that. One of the tariffs (the standard one) is £383.50 mpre than I am currently paying and the Future Energy Plus one is £481 more than I am currently paying!!! Bot these figures are after allwoances for the tariff price rise.

Why not opt for the best price tariff then monitor your usage using this site http://smartmeter.ukpower.co.uk/
I have to say I am loving my British Gas smart meter which is currently advising me I am using around £3 a day gas and 60p Electric. As this is my first year off the 2010 fixed price I am happy to see exactly how much I am using for both.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
Joyful thanks for the great link to the smartmeter site I was toying with dumping my Eco 7 and just going on single rate, but a few calcs on the site shows that i am still better off marginally with Eco7. I am with British Gas can anyone explain why they have so many different tariffs.0
