Just how far from reality are bankers??

"Santander UK was named 'Best Bank in the UK' for the second year running at the prestigious Banker Awards."

I work at the place. This caused a lot of amusement as it's plastered all over the intranet.

It depends what you are judging them by.

From a shareholder's point of view they could well be good. From a narrowly defined banking business point of view, ditto. From a customer - well if you don't need to use 'customer service' that much, they've got some good products.

Given that they are successful they must be doing something right.
  • Bit early for April fools day......
I have a deep burning indifference
  • I note that this was 'awarded' by "Banker Magazine".

This is a common ploy by advertising staff to assist flagging advert sales. They find a likely institution with a big budget, and 'allude' to the award - and offer all sorts of packages for double-spreads, 'advertorials', etc. in the magazine.

This happened to me in South Korea. We were about 50% through a major re-engineering, and were at the time (quite frankly) giving krap service, but we were 'awarded' one of these 'Best Service in Korea' awards. About a year later, I was most proud to enter 'genuine' award competitions later after the major project and actually won two awards that meant something.

This is very hard work, and I fear it will be a long time before Santander can improve, but I guess the only way is up!

"best bank" for offering high rates and suckering the punters in. Also, I suppose, best bank for generating negative headlines & publicity. What a joke!

  • I'm shocked at the constant misspelling of bankers!

It's rhyming slang down this neck of the woods.
