Urgent please help

I have entered into a walking agreement with a bailiff over non domestic rates.

I made a couple of payments late, They were made but a day or so late.

Agreement reads paid on so and so date then weekly.

Got a phone call today saying give over £155 or we are coming to take goods.

Can they do this and what can I do?

  • Don't panic first of all, lock all windows and doors, make sure there's no way for them to get in. They can't break in but if they can see an easy way in they'll take it. Ring the national debtline for free on 0800 008 7968 they will tell you exactly what to do and how to do it. They offer loads of help for free and will send you template letters etc to deal with this company. Also another way to slow these guys down is make sure you do everything in writing. Don't give them your phone number or open the door to them. Hope this helps :)
  • :( The police have told me as he has a walking possession that they can come and just break in
  • But thankyou for your help, im guessing im just going to have to pa it or else it will cost me more to replace the goods in the long run, plus they can still bill me if the goods don't reach a high enough value at auction.

Moral of the story, Dont let them in to get the walking possession. I was scared alone and being threatened though

Since you allowed him to do a WPO, he can take the goods and then charge you an extra £XXX for the privelege, so you need to get this paid ASAP.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Right ring debtline NOW 0800 008 7968 its free and they will tell you what to do and if there's any way you can stop him from coming in your house. Please ring them, they know what they're talking about and will help you and make you feel much better. Lock the doors and windows anyways, don't be scared, they're bailiffs, they wont hurt you :) there's nothing to be scared about. Just please ring the number I gave and they will help you. :)

    peainapod.

Please stop fgiving the wrong advice. Once the bailiff has a levy or WPO the goods effectively belong to them and they can sieze them anytime they want.

  • Tell me more about your situation, income, do you work ? on benefits etc
  • I know im screwed this time. Tis a very good lesson for the next time. I've discovered if I didn't let him in to get the WPO in the first place he wouldn't have been able to do anything
  • Sorry Annabanna, i didn't mean to imply that this could all magically go away, just remember what a help they were to me when I felt there was no way out of my situation and they can always put something in place to help you :) you seemed well aware that the baliff could come in because you signed the papers telling him he could basically, certainty don't think giving you a phone number that could help you is wrong advice, but I'm sure there's many 'financial experts' on here who could help you more than I could :)
  • Don't worry, we all make mistakes Annabanna, especially when we don't know what we're doing. At least you'll know in the future (well lets hope you won't be in this situation again). You'll get through this don't worry, I know its easy to say that and you probably don't believe it right now but you will :)
