Dodgy Left Wing Mirror - Would It Pass Mot?
Hi
I bought a car about 2 weeks ago from a garage, I checked most things including the wing mirrors briefly but when I actually drove the car home I tried to alter the left wing mirror and found it doesn't move around as much as it should, it didn't really bother me as it was ok for me until last night when I went on the motorway and couldn't see properly to go back into the left lanes.
Would it actually pass an MOT like this? It had the MOT done by the garage before I picked it up.

Someone damaged my left wing mirror and I asked the garage whether you legally need to have it working properly and they said no, not that one. I don't think mirrors are part of an MOT are they?Torgwen..........

You're right they do come into it... Mot.co.uk but a smashed mirror would perhaps be contruction and use rather than essential for MOT (ie if it was dangerous).
Doing a search on that site:Obligatory mirrors
Obligatory mirrors are
a. an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the
drivers seat), or
b, an exterior mirror fitted to the
nearside fleft hand side when seated In the drivers seat), or
c. an interior mirror.
Also.....1. Check the obligatory mirrors for presence, security, condition and usability.
1. An obligatory mirror:
a. missing or insecure
b. so damaged or deteriorated that the view to the rear is seriously impaired
c. does not provide a view to the rear of the vehicle
d. not clearly visible from the drivers seat, or incapable of being adjusted to be clearly visible from the drivers seaTorgwen.....................

My drivers side wing mirror was vandalised a few years ago in that it is became loose. I got loads of very sticky tape and bound it up very tight and it does not move now (although the mirror part can still be adjusted).
Everytime I get a MOT it gets mentioned but it has never failed on it0
