ISP upgrade - is it worth it ?

I am on an Opal account and have been offered an LLU (up to 24Mbps) upgrade from my current (up to)8Mbps account
The problem being that I currently connect at around 5Mbs and Opal estimate my connection speed at 5Mbps !!
ie The same - but the cost is lower - £20 inc phone line - compared to £27 (BT / Opal) at present
I would have to sign a 12month contract - at present I am on a 1 month contract
I believed that an LLU connection would be much faster ??
Is it worth doing ?

you need to get your router stats and post them up to get a idea of the speed you could get on the LLU ADSL2+ line, a lot of the sales people do not actually know the differences and just check the BT wholesale checker which will only give the estimated speed on a ADSLmax line use this http://www.dslzoneuk.net/maxspeed2.php to get a estimate
you also need to check what other differences will be implemented as if you are getting your phone rental from them they could transfer your line to a full LLU line which would mean if you ever wanted to change suppliers you would have to pay BT the £125 connection fee to get back onto their network before you could sign up with anyone else (this could change in future however it is the way it is working at the moment)
you might also find the FUP is different on their LLU line than your current deal so you would need to check that
QUICK EDIT sorry didnt answer your question fully, as it does depend on the above information, i personally changed for a ADSLmax line getting around 5mb to Sky's unlimited LLU option and now get a solid 10mb for less money so it has been well worth it for meDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

I've had a few problems, but they have been sorted out quickly and my overall package has kept getting cheaper as they have been correcting issues - and I've had some credits for things too. I've been generally happy with the way things have gone - I've just signed up for mobile internet with them too, so they can't have upset me too much, though I did wait to sign up until I saw how they dealt with my last issue - double and I think in some cases triple charging me! Credited it all back and sorted out though, once I finally got through to the right people.
I got transferred to them from Nildram and the main annoyance is that they seem utterly confused by the fact I am not a business, I was just on a business package with Nildram cause it matched the kind of features I wanted. No idea if they will start having an issue with this at some point and try to move me to something else - can't say it bothers me too much.0 -
gonzo is right, show us yer line/router stats, in particular the line attenuation and snrm. This will give the best indication if you will see higher speeds or not...
The calculator here:-
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php is probably the most accurate estimator out there, so.....line stats please......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0
