Well done to Easyjet

Was in Gibraltar airport yesterday waiting to fly back to Manchester with Monarch.Git chatting to some people who were waiting to fly back to Gatwick with Easyjet, they had been scheduled to fly back last Friday but their flight was cancelled. The earliest possible Easyjet could get them back was Monday so they were put up in the Rock Hotel, quite a good hotel by all accounts, had all their meals while there and Easyjet picked up the cost ath the end of the stay so they didnt have to pay and then claim the money back.People had nothing but praise for how Easyjet handled the situation

It is actually called Regulation EC261/2004 http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32004R0261:EN:HTML Article 6 & 9 that we have to thank and for handling agents that carry it out properly, some are indeed superb.

Credit where it's due, it's good to hear about a situation that has been handled well for a change!
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

As Richardw has already posted, I cannot understand why one would praise an airline for doing what they are required to do under the law anyway!

It is noteworthy only because it is the exception (for Easyjet) rather than the rule.

Well maybe the praise is because they havnt had all this hassle

must admit, my mother, sister & great niece were due to fly EZY man/agp last saturday. flight was eventually cancelled due to spanish ATC walkout, which is when she called me to ask advice. I told her that once she had her flight re-booked she needed to ask for a hotel & melas as is due under EU261/2004 Article 9 (Right of care). She said she couldnt remember all that, so said she would ring me if any problems. With this, i then moved to my PC where i had all the details on hand, ready to argue with EZY.

Imagine my suprise when the next call from my mother was to say that she had been re-booked onto the flight the following morning, and that EZY were trying to find a 3 bedded room for them. 20 mins later, they were on their way to the hotel provided by EZY (about 18 people in total), meals booked, and return transport the following morning to get them back to the airport for the flight.

Yes, it may be what the airlines are supposed to do, but it's amazing how many try to get out of the responsibility. So well done Easyjet.

Yes, many Airlines are sticking two fingers up to Regulation EC 261/2004 and the Montreal Convention.
