A MSE alternative to a DS Nintendo

Junior has been advised to get a DS Nintendo and get in particular the brain training sort of games to help him with some vocational tests that he will be undertaking (and yes I serious, and knowing the person who advised it, they weren't joking either
)
Anyway that is the one console that we haven't got access to - we've got a Wii and an xbox.
Are there similar games to the brain training games for these formats or is the only solution to get a DS Nintendo?

We have this and I love it as much as the kids. Is a very good game and gets them thinking, imo.

Can I ask what sort of vocational tests? i seem to remember that there was some research released fairly recently that said that these so-called brain training toys had no effect whatsoever!0 -
In addition to Big Brain Academy for the Wii, there is My Word Coach (depending on the types of activities he needs to do it may or may not be relevant), Amazon have it 2nd hand from £3.50 plus postage.
In my opinion the brain training games have a definite effect - since playing Brain Training for the DS my mind is a lot sharper and I find I can solve maths problems much more quickly. However if you really don't want to spend much at all, you could always get sudokus or logic problems etc, they will also give the brain a workout but will probably be much cheaper.DFW by end of June 2016...! if u have xbox live maybe try some puzzle indie games for a few points each (works out about a pound for a indie game i think) or if u have a family pc why not try something like this website
http://www.braintraining101.com/braingames/
or have a look and see what google comes up with.thats the first site i found.0 -
Any sort of repetitive word or number game is good for sharpening the brain. There are lots of "puzzle" type games available, especially on the Wii. But there are loads of similar activities online for free anyway, try this site..

If you really want a DS, look for a second-hand old-style one from games stores. They usually offer a 3 month guarantee and you should be able to pick up one for around £30-40."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
