Hi All,
Could anyone recommend a replacement boiler.
I am looking to replace a glowworm economy 30 gas boiler thats currently heating 8 radiators in a semi detached house, the hot water is supplied via a seperate multipont boiler thats approx 2 year old.
I considered replacing both with a combi but that seems considerably more work....house layout etc.
The pipework is 10mm microbore do these modern boilers run systems with this pipeword?
Advice please

You'd be best keeping the robust open-flu boiler, modern ones are made of cheese plus the control PCBs fail, fans seize up and the condensate outlets freeze up.
You'll be looking a minimum of £4000 for
Condensing boiler
New flu
Powerflush for warranty
Condensate drain pipework
New gas pipe to keep 1mbar pressure drop
New wiring for Part-P
'Energy-efficient' controls like TRVs0 -
but my modern condensing combi is approx 30% more efficient than the old glowworm.

here in the NW you can get vaillant or bosch combis, fitted for 1500/2000 quid.Get some gorm.0 -
Every house is slightly different, but a very approx guide for my area is about £2500 including all that is mentioned in above post for a basic conventional boiler change.
You will only need to look for a 12Kw new boiler as long as your existing one keeps you nice and warm and you are not planning any extensions etc.0 -
Hi,
Your best bet is to get an installer round.
From the info posted a combi would suit you best as I would assume you have suitable mains pressure/flow.
Can't see the layout from here so no idea how practical it would be. (Hence the first line.)
A combi (or heat only boiler) should cope with microbore unless it's been kinked or crushed.
GSR.
Preferred brands Vaillant ,Viessmann or Remeha in no particular order.Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)0
