Please please dont insure your car with hastings direct,my wife recently had someone smash into the back of her car,she was subsequently provided with a hire car and then told by the hire company first that her car had been written off and not the insurance company. Then when the insurance company sent her a letter asking for her service history etc so they could value the car,the letter was dated 17th Nov and arrived 1st dec. Then they rang and told her 3 days after the letter arrived that the hire car had to go back,They offered a low amount for her car and told her she couldnt have her stereo back which she had left in the car and she had to pay the 10 months left on her premium totaling £300,It seems that all we are doing are fighting with her insurance company that she pays good money to help her in this kind of situation,it wouldnt be so bad if the accident was her fault. Please be wary!!!

Hi, when you buy car insurance you take out an annual policy which some people pay by instalments via a credit agreement. If you have an accident you have to pay the full amount owing for the year. This is standard practise and this example just goes to show that very few people bother to read the terms and conditions until its too late.Do not accept their first offer however the hirecar should go back as soon as you receive the cheque for settlement. I dont know how you fighting for a higher settlement and therefore delaying things would affect your rights with respect to the hire car.0
