Is there a quick way of deleting deleted e-mails ?

Hi,
I realise this is probably a really stupid question for you computer wizards, but here goes.
At the moment there seems to be approx 1000 deleted messages on our computer.
As we all use the computer, quite a few of the deleted ones are mine and I would like to keep them as they contain information I'd like to keep.
Most of the others can be deleted and I'd like to do that, but they are all over the place.
Do you have to highlight each one and delete it and then a box comes up and says do you really want to permanently delete this or words to that effect, which means it'll take me ages to do.
Is there a way of flagging or highlighting all the ones I'd like to permanently delete and then pressing a button once to delete all those ?
Surely there must be a quicker way than doing them one at a time
Many thanks

er.. maybe you shouldn't have deleted them then!
If you want to keep emails but want to remove them from the Inbox why not set up another folder. Assuming you are using Outlook Express (you didn't specify) right click on "Local Folders" and select "New Folder...". Call it whatever you want and then drag any emails you want to store there. You can use the Control or Shift buttons to highlight multiple emails to drag.

Alternatively if you still want selective bulk deleting then use the Control or Shift buttons to select all the ones you want to delete and then press the Delete key.

    Yes, outlook express.
  • click the top email to select it, then zoom to bottom of list and hold shift down and click the bottom one. They will now all be selected.
    Delete all in one go.

Or of there are ones you want to keep amongst the list, hold CTRL down and click individual ones to deselect /select.
This way you can be delete loads in one go but make sure you keep the ones you want.

Filtering is a good way to achieve this too.
You can set up mail rules, so that for example, all mail from certain individuals gets sorted into a separate folder, or all mail with certain words in the subject get filtered, etc , etc.
I don't use OE anymore but i think you'll find this in Tools> message rules or something like that.

in your INBOX you will see a little square
at the top left of your first E-MAIL TICK IT
    AND THEY WILL ALL TICK,
THEN SCROLL DOWN TO THE ONES YOU WANT TO KEEP
AND UNTICK THEM,THEN GO TO DELETE AND THEY WILL ALL BE DELETED TOGETHER
