Bizarre fraud attempt

Not surprised at all, I have UKINFO on my machine as well as other databases, this does not sound that advanced for someone to do it that way.0

I am concerned that they have my postal address, but as CSE suggests there are many ways to get hold of an address.
Around the time of the postal strikes last year we had a Barclaycard intercepted whilst in the post, most likely by a temporary member of staff in the sorting office. It was simplicity itself to get my number from the yellow pages (even though I was convinced I'd registered ex-directory) at which point I was called by the fraudster pretending to be from Barclays. I was suspicious because of the fact he was using street slang (quite unprofessional, even for Barclays) and all the more so when he asked me to type my pin into the phone. Hung up at that point and phoned the real Barclays Fraud and the Police. The most annoying thing was having dialed 1471 and gotten his number nobody was interested and I was told as no fraud had actually taken place there was no crime to investigate!
Will be taking the laptop back into a curries branch for a refund this weekend, will keep an eye out for suspicious characters hanging around the house though.
Oh and yes, I do have a daughter. But at 10 weeks old, I think that I'd really have to worry if she'd figured out ordering online

I agree with those who have said that the next part of the plan would be to get that laptop off you at some point.0

Another common variation on this scam is to order loads of stuff to an address, the innocent party will get the stuff, stack it in a room and wait for companies to reclaim or collect their goods, companies are nitouriously slow at this.
While waiting, people simply force entry to remove the goods they know are there. It was rife in Leeds / Bradford a while back.
Can't see that happening for one laptop though."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
Well I have to say I had a similar slighty odd instance of 'fraud' someone saying they were me, told my bank that my card had been stolen and so my account got closed. No idea why they would ever have done that - no money was taken from my accounts etc, and I've no idea what good that would have ever have done for a potential fraudster...I was a lot more concerned about it than my bank mind you.MFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11
