right, had thermostat turned down to 10 all day today, but left the boiler on, come home and its sitting at 2.5bar (is this classed as 'cold'? - not been used allday, but still on)

Have drained a pint out of my downstairs radiator by bleeding it, pressure has dropped very slightly.. should i continue draining more water out?

Thanks again everyone for your patience

If all rads are cold, drain the system until pressure reads about 1.2-1.5 bar.

thanks gas4you, how much roughly will i need ot drain out the system? 1 pint and it hardly moved from 2.5 bar, might i actually need to drain off 3 or 4 or more pints?

If the boiler itself is not "hot" and sort of warmish you've got 2½ bar of pressure then yes its too high. When the boiler fires up properly it'll drive it over 3 bar, the PRV will lift and you'll get water out of the outlet again. Check your manual but I'm guessing your boiler should be at iro 2 bar when hot.

Continue letting some out the way you are although I suspect you'll find it easier if you can locate a drain point. Doesn't matter how much you take out just get the presure down to something more sensible.

System pressure should be between 1 and 1½ bar when the system is cold as stated yesterday. Best time to check this is first thing in the morning just before it fires up - unless you are running it all night.

You'll need to get the PRV checked - don't forget.

    Cheers
