Do i need an active carbon filter for my cooker hood?

I have a new cooker hood which has a grease filter but do I need an active carbon filter and what does it do?

DEpends if its vented to the outside or not I think - if its vented o/side then you shouldn't need one.

Mine wont be vented o/side. I have bought grease filters before but not active carbon ones.

They can be bought from ebay thats where I got mine from.

Thanks do I need to buy a seperate foam grease filter as well as the active carbon ones?

You may well find cheaper, but gives you a starting point (yes you do need both)

ps they just filter the air of smelly fumes at least thats the idea - but never as good as the hood being properly vented to th outside.

The hood i have is similar to this one http://reviews.diy.com/2191-en_gb/10617551/reviews.htm?sort=rating&dir=asc and it does not seem like the filter will clip in as it does not come with clips.
