ok...please dont shout at me for posting in wrong place but i have gone through most of the stickys and my head is spinning so hopefully someone will see this and help me!
i am currently using a desktop pc int he spare room but we have another baby on the the way so i need to move it out.
i want to get a laptop and stay on AOL and go wireless but have a few questions:
1) is wireless as stable as through a modem?
2) if i go wireless is it still possible to connect via a modem if , say , im going to be in the front room and i need to be connected for a while?
3) a i dont know much about prices for laptops is it worth waiting untill january sales? because aol are offering a free router before december.
4) i want to spend around £500 , is this worth me splashing out?

I am with Aol on their Gold,I was paying £24.99 a month, I rang them and said I was thinking of leaving, they offered me there and then a wireless router and lowered my monthly fee down to £19.99.
Ring 0800 2006254 the freephone number and keep trying until you get a friendly person at customer service. You may need to call a few times before you get a result.
Have a look here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=221299
I purchased a Dell laptop a few weeks back for £342 its excellent for what I need, for work and surfing the net.
Hope you get sorted

jbatista - Do you need to use any AOL software on your PC now that you have the wireless router? (Like the horrible browser and stuff that you "need" to use if you have a USB softmodem)
I want to avoid their software at all costs but quite like the sound of their service.0 -
You don't have to use their software.
Can't you use NTL as your ISP, with a cable/dsl wireless router?
http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/broadband&source=googlebroadbandEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
hi jbatista
got straight through with that number...brilliant!! that was one of my biggest gripes with AOL the the 08703 number...
anyway , i was correct , she said i couldnt connect wirless through ntl number but i am in the process of changing from ntl back to bt (who have a gret deal at the moment incidently) and she said it would be no problem to send a router out as soon as i get connected to bt.
also , the same thing happend with me last year about the £24.99 gold package i got them down to £19.99 and last week it went up to £24.99 because it was for 12 months , i said i wasnt happy and was going to laeve now im on a monthly conract of £19.99 for AOL gold which i am reasonably pleased with.mmmm free stufffffffff

So.... I won't need to use their software, and it'll just work out of the box if I choose the free wireless router?
Goodbye Tiscali. (Wireless router + £35 Quidco = AOL.)0 -
where did Tiscali come into it?
Do you need Gold, unlimited downloads?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
