Why did you list them if they weren't available?

I assume you have considered the fact that you will be outside the time frame for any buyer protection?
Yeah, that's why were still negotiating :)
  • Hi, back to the question of when you should refund. I have woke up to a load of where is my item. (well 2!). They were both bought and posted on Thursday - this is less than a week. I sent nice emails asking them to wait at least a week to 10days in this weather - but one is now demanding a refund.
Yesterday I had one from America, posted the 22nd, they went on and on that they needed the money back (£25), for Christmas pressies, I ended up refunding her, but wish I hadn't now.
How long is everyone elses post taking?

Quite a long time but the seller I bought a CD from two weeks ago has now got a load of negs for non-co-operation so it may not be just the weather.

    Back to the original question.

To check what buyers see I just checked a whole load of DVD's auctions I paid for via ebay on the 3rd Dec. Ebay estimates delivery between the 7th to the 14th of December depending on the delivery service the sellers stated they using. Non have arrived yet.

One item, paid on 3rd, should be arrive by 13th (according to ebay) and Ebay recommend waiting until the 17th before contacting them about it.

Ebay also have this on their website:
"Because of heavy snowfall across the UK and Ireland, some deliveries may be delayed. Please remember this when you leave Feedback and contact your seller before opening a case in the Resolution Centre."

So it seems you could (maybe should) wait a long time before refunding the buyer. However if the buyers aren't happy they are free to leave negative feedback so the longer you wait the more chance you have of getting negative feedback.

Buyers can only open disputes after 3 days after the estimated delivery date, sellers then have 10 days to respond.

So you can refund before the estimated delivery date (as soon as the buyer complains), before 3 days after the estimated delivery date (before the buyer starts a dispute) or before 10 days after that (before you have to respond to the buyer). At each point the potential for negative feedback goes up and the chance that the parcel will still arrive goes down.

In my experience buyers don't give negative feedback if the parcel finally arrives (even if they have opened a dispute) but they can and they do leave poor ratings.

So it's up to you to balance the risk of negative feedback against the potential that you are refunding a buyer for an item that they will eventually receive.

Delivery times don't matter for a paypal claim, any buyer cna open an INR on day 7.

As for post looking at feedback mine is taking around 2 - 3 working days now for 2nd , it used to usually arrive next day. I am waiting for feedback to be left on an item sent Saturday to lincolnshire as I notice they ar every prompt with leaving feedback and they haven't left me any yet.
