Hanging a curtain pole from the ceiling?

Hi,
A bit of a strange question for you but here goes.
I have a upvc front door that has a glass panel either side. To the left of the door, there is the hall wall which juts out from the door, however to the right hand side of the door, the glass panel is fitted straight into the wall at 90 degrees. There is no wood frame or anything.
This makes it impossible to hang a curtain rail up normally as there is no where on the right hand side to secure the curtain pole holder.
Is it possible to hang the curtain pole from the ceiling or would this be a bad idea? Obviously I don't want to bring the ceiling down.
Or is it possible to fix a curtain pole at the very end straight into the wall if i drilled it? Is there such a thing as a double ended screw that could go into a raw plug one end and be secured into the end of the pole (where the fancy end bit normally screws in)? I've not seen one anywhere but that would be ideal.
I've already looked at those poles like shower poles that can be 'fixed' themselves in the gap but they won't be strong enough to hold up the curtains, plus they don't look very nice.
I have a real problem with the hall being very cold and need to cover the door permanently for next year as well.
I did say it was a daft question.
Any advice would be welcome. Thanks

A is double ended. They use then to join curtain poles.
I can't post a link but google is your friend, then go to B&Q.0 -
Try this thread some ideas there..https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/317723#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

They're called dowel screws:

To get a secure fixing into the ceiling, you will have to locate a joist, either with a stud locator or by trial and error and then make good the misses0 -
Maybe I'm being dumb but what's wrong with fixing the pole to the wall above the door? Unless there is a glass panel above the door, there must surely be a wall there of some description - if there isn't and the top of the door is at ceiling level, then you can't hang the pole from the ceiling without the door clashing with it anyway!Adventure before Dementia!0

We have two rails that are fixed to the ceiling.
All you have to do is find where the joists are and screw into them.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for all your replies, I forgot to say there is another glass panel above the actual door which fits straight to the ceiling.
I really don't fancy trying to drill through the ceiling as I haven't a clue where the joists are.
Dowel screws, thanks for that. Will get off to B&Q asap.0 -
You may be able to find where the dowels are by knocking on the ceiling.
If it's a very heavy curtain you may need to use the technique used for ceiling projectors etc: cut a hole in the ceiling and insert a long piece of wood- you can then screw through the plaster into the wood. You probably don't need this strength.0 -

There are very cheap cable/metal detectors that will find the nails that attach the ceiling to the joists.
You do not have to drill it. Wood screws will do on thier own.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
http://www.curtain-corner.com/acatalog/1_968ASH38.html I have this type of thing on my shower curtain pole. Fixes to the wall either side. These ones seem a bit expensive but there must be others around.
edit .... google for recess bracket, there are loads listed.0
