Laptop Fans keep clear

Hi,

I have just bought a new latop, thanks for all the helpful advice on here. I am reading about how to look after it as I need it to last a long time and the thing that keeps popping up is to keep the fan underneath clear.

How do I do this? As if the laptop is being used then the it will be either on my lap or on a table, hence the fan will be covered. I can't see how I can comfortably use it without the underneath being covered?

As always any help will be gratefully received.

Something like a laptop cooler tray (these have fans built in you just pop your laptop on top & hey presto)

laptops usually have small pads the sit on to raise them slightly above the surface they are resting on - calling them laptops can be a little misleading as it is not recommended to place them on a soft surface - such as a thiack tablecloth. you could place them on a tray if on your lap - or just position them so the vents are not obstructed by your knee. you should be able to feel if the unit is starting to get warm too - and the fan(s) will speed up too

Its a price everyone pays for the use of a laptop, and there are other expensive repair issues associated with using a lappie on your lap. Look at it this way you and millions of others all suffer the same fate, but on the bright side you are doing the some people the world of good - yes you really are - most of the money spent on repair and maintenance goes to people like Hammyman, myself and others on this site .. .. .. and that's a very very good thing for you to to do especially at Christmas :D N.B. couldn't find a ' tongue in cheek smiley so settled for a big grin !

    - lappie tray - possible
    - cooled lappie tray - possible
    - hard surface - possible
    - dust / fluff free room - impossible - even the cleanest household
    - keep away from radiators [ winter ] - possible
    - don't bend / kink the PSU cable - possible
    - don't switch off powersaving to make the CPU run at full capacity - possible
    - and the last one on the use~on~a~lap, don't drop it on the floor. I've had a dozen in the last 5 weeks with completely kernokkerated screens.

    Love the new technical term.
