It was good to see MCBIRNIE posting again today - and very opportune, since we seem to be having a spate of posters being harassed, put down, insulted and generally bullied by Debt Collection Agencies.
This thread spells out, in plain English, what anyone who is unfortunate enough to be a victim of these 'evil thugs' should need to know.
In fact ANYONE who has a problem with debt will benefit from the advice contained in this thread.
    Thanks MCBIRNIE:beer:

That's ok Rog. Helping DCAs see the error of their maleovent ways is now my number 1 favourite hobby.
Happy to help where i can.
The most important advice to remember is we have the power. No crime has been committed however bad they try tomake you feel.
  • Thank you so much for such a useful thread.

Although I have not defaulted as yet, my life is being blighted with worry over debt, as a single parent (on benefits due to ill health) I feel very vulnerable and your no-nonsense, plain english thread has helped me get things in perspective.

Re: offering £1.00, how long would that be allowed for and what happens next? Does that instantly ruin your credit rating? CCCS hae advised me to do that but as I am trying to sell the house (to address my debts) I am worried about my credit rating to get another mortgage.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Hello ScorpioLady,it won't ruin your rating right away. All you are doing at this stage is requesting the agreement from the company.I look at it that your credit rating will improve with time. You can offer £1 for initially 6months, with a promise to increase payments if your financial means improves.I hope things workout.
