Pre Payment to Metered

Hello

Myself and my boyfriend have just moved into a house which has its gas and electricity run by pre payment meters.

The amount of money these are eating up is astronomical so could someone advise me the best way to get these taken out and to have gas and electricity supplied in the normal metered way please?

We both have good credit ratings by the way.

Many thanks

Ask your supplier. They will change them for you.

But they may charge you, some charge £50 per meter.
Also check there is no debt recovery set on the meters from the previous tenant.

  • Can we switch providers to someone cheaper then? We could maybe take advantage of the £100 cashback offer that EDF have and use that against getting rid of the pre payment meters. Or are the rules different for a customer with a pre payment meter?

You'd have to change to a prepayment tariff and I doubt if there are any that give £100. You need to call round and ask them what they will do to help. British Gas changed mine for me for free.

    Yes you can change supplier.

Use a compariosn site to see what is the best deal available to you :)
I'm sure the £100 cashback from EDF only applkies to a certain tariff which may not be the cheapest - however the comparison site will say if it is available to you
