New gas and electricity accounts

I've just moved into a rental property. When I spoke to the water company they said it was listed as uninhabited and created a new account. So for gas and electricity should I get a combined account or separate to save money? Do I just ring up whatever company and they'll sort out everything as long as I give meter readings?
Thanks,
Ed

No, you already have a deemed account with the existing gas and electricity suppliers (assuming there is still a supply). You should have taken a meter reading on the day you moved in and registered with them. Once you have an account with them, you can then start the switching process if you wish (which you probably will, since you will automatically be on the standard tariff-the most expensive) unless you say otherwise).
The switching process will take 4 to 5 weeks. Use a comp site to get the best deal.No free lunch, and no free laptop

How do I find out who we're with? The estate agents don't have a clue and theres no old post there to use as a clue.
