Tyre recommendations 165X60R14
I drive a little Hyundai 1.2 I10 (its a nice car:)). My car has just come up to 13000 miles and I need to replace the front tyres. The size is 165x60R14 (t rated). Now I am very out of touch with what are the best sort of tyres to go for in this size. All I can say is that I live in a very rural area and go down lots of narrow twisty lanes. So grip is very important. Having said that I have a 40 mile round trip to work so need something which is going to last and help give good MPG.
Any recommendations please ?

Always go with premium brands, avoid budget tyre's and Pirelli's.
Ignore advice from tyre fitters, they always recommend whatever happens to be on special with their supplier and claim that there's no difference.
For your car your looking around £60-£70 a corner, fully balanced and fitted if you buy online with Mytyres, Blackcircles, etc. The big tyre/exhaust centre's compete by adding the balancing and fitting afterwards the sneaky blighters!
If you can find a local independant tyre dealer they often get VERY good deals on Bridgestone tyre's (for some reason).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Great tyre's
I got a deal on them some years ago and they're soooo soft and have soooo much grip its untrue. Drive out on a hot day and you'll come back with gravel from the road actually melted into the tyre!
Unfortunately they lasted only 5000 miles
Would I buy them again? if I could get a deal, definitely

Why not replace them with the same size/make/tread pattern as the originals?
I believe that they are Hankooks.0 -

Yes they are Hankooks. The problem I found was they are fine in the dry but very twitchy in the wet. Found it to easy to spin the wheels when trying to pull away at wet junctions.0 -
Can tyre choices really help your MPG ? I know Michelin are supposed to be the Premium brand but how much of that is hype ?0

^^ Any MPG saving will be minuscule between tyre brands.
It's all sales hype, walk around a car showroom now and the biggest sign on the car is the MPG figure.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Indeed, as well as any tyres that claim extra MPG will probably be of a slightly harder compound, and possibly give less grip.0

I have just replaced the Continental 'fuel saver' tyres on our Aygo with Toyo 350s.
Contis had a treadwear rating of 230 which is why they wore so quickly (13,000 miles out of four after swapping them front to back), the Toyos have a treadwear rating of 400 so should last much longer - they have proved excellent in the recent snow.0 -
Another vote for Toyo. I switched to Toyo Proxes for my Honda Accord a couple of years ago (following spells on Bridgestones and two different styles of Dunlops) and have been extremely impressed.
That's a FWD car, heavy on front tyres, but as a complete contrast I also have them on a RWD MX5 and they have been equally impressive (they're very popular among MX5 owners, apparently).
Mostly deeply rural driving on tricky roads, with the occasional motorway run.
Great tyres, it seems, at a good price online from Camskill, and fitted by my local garage for £10 a corner.0
