Speedo change

Hi!
Bought Ford Fiesta with broken speedo (all clocks were down and no milage display).
Now bought new (used) working speedo of eBay but speedo milage is roughly 8000miles more than I estimate on my Fiesta (last reading was from last MOT = August).

Q:
Shall I inform DVLA of speedo change (I suppose they'd do some speedo accuracy tests and charge for that) or just leave it as it is and on next MOT have 8k more?

Is it a legal obligation to inform anyone (I'm sure you can read actual reading from car's computer which is now different than the speedo one)?

There are places that will correct your mileage for you. But if it's a banger don't bother doing aything.

How long has the speedo been broken probably for more than 8k miles........lol

Well. I think I'll drive it for next 10y (it's Xreg).
Just wonder of legal obligations and all of that insurance rubbish matters...

It's not DVLA you need to inform, it's VOSA. Or at least they can advise you on what you need to do. DVLA don't store mileage info.

I've changed the one on my Capri a few times. Its gone in for MOTs with less than the previous one, far more than possible than the previous one and things inbetween. Never a problem.

The problem comes when you sell it and misrepresent it, i.e you had 80k on the clock, put a speedo in with 40k on and say its genuine mileage.

Just wonder.. cos my car's insurance is for 8k/year. What if I go for MOT next August and milage instead 6k will be 14 or 16k??

i have changed my speedo roughly about 6 times from differnt styles. I have now fitted a digidash i havent informed anyone but if i were to ever sell the car i would simply state that the milege is inaccurate and is no indication of what the car has done.

rough calculations suggest the caar has done about 280k but the speedo says 87k i have had it ten years so i dont think i will be selling it anytime soon

I've yet to be asked for physical proof of mileage. Mine is made more complicated by the fact I have so much personal use - about 8k I think and unlimited business and do around 19k a year.
