Hi
I am looking at buying the canon eos500d camera.
I have looked at moneysupermarket- bestbuy comes up (quidco cashback as well); however there is an offer with pixmania and others so now I am getting confused.
Would any of you who know about cameras please help me on where to buy it. The best cash back ends tomorrow. I'm fairly new to using cashback and its the first time I'm buying something expensive that has different codes/ bundles etc
I had a basic olympus digital and after 4 years it has died and would cost more to repair than it's worth- I paid £200 then so this is a step up.
All advice appreciated.

Currys or Amazon look the cheapest according to camera price buster, and around £35 cheaper than bestbuy. The extra £30 cashback from Canon, bringing the price down to £450 doesn't finish until mid January

Thanks Shimrod. I'll see if i can do them thorough Quidco. Currys usually are expensive so thanks for that. x
I'll also look at pixmania and decide- it's alot of money and I can't make a mistake! xxxx0 -
Let me just assure you,a couple of months back the 550d was closer to 700 quid with a kit lens on the best offers around, or more like 900 list price. It's a lot of camera for your money, you will be very happy with it!0

Hi Paddy,
are you advising the 550 rather than the 500? I didn't think there was a major difference apart from video quality?
Thanks for your reply x0 -
There is a web site called PANAMOZ which has the 550d with the 55is lens for 561 inc postage. I have read mixed reviews in them. Does ayone know if I should buy from them?0

Sorry, misread, I thought you'd found a 550D for the price you said.Hi Paddy,

But I do think it (the 550D) is an incredible amount of camera for the money - not just for the stills, but as you say the video capabilities are identical to the 7D, very high bitrate/quality for a consumer camera. There are some jobs you'll still want to use a real video camera for, but for others you get incredible results for cheap with the 550D, it's had explosive sales due mostly to that feature!0 -

I haven't seen any mixed reviews of the 550d - they've all been very positive. If you can afford one over the 500d, it would be a worthwhile purchase.

**edit** Check out panamoz before you order. I've just had a look at the website and they don't even carry a contact address. There seems to be a number of discussions around as to whether or not you're going to end up paying VAT on top of the price as well, so they may not be as cheap as they sound.0 -
I've just bought my Wife a Canon EOS60D with the 18-135 lens from Panamoz.com. Price was well below the best I could find on UK sites (£790) + £9.99 for UPS insured/tracked delivery, (best UK price £840) ordered at 4pm thursday, was emailed despatch notification and tracking number by midday friday, camera delivered monday 5.30pm, great price and fast service, what more could you want? I'm aware that this Companys feedback was 'a bit variable' when they initially set up, but they seem to have got their act together now, and use Paypal/credit cards, so presumably must be 'respectable' nowadays.
My only initial worry was that the camera might be a 'grey-import', with foreign language handbooks/software, but no, full UK version, right down to the UK 13amp plug on the charger, so no worries there either. When my Wife needs extra lens(es) for this camera, I know where I'll be looking first, shame they don't do camera accessories yet! Oh, and by the way, the prices are tax/duty paid,- apparently, non-UK Companies can make arrangements with HMRC to pay tax/duty direct to UK HMRC, which this firm does (they say), whereas other sites like dzone2 and wolu digital state that you are responsible for tax/duty on items as they arrive in UK, so unless you pay the carrier first, you won't get your item delivered.0
