Hi all
I am currently on "online energy saver 8" with scottish power. The contract finished on 30 November, they sent an email offering to renew it. Our current monthly direct debit is £85 and we are in credit to the tune of £191 for some reason.
I just did a price comparison on money supermarket which reports that the best deal is with First Utility but is -£65 (yes thats MINUS £65)

To be honest Ive beeen reading for the last two hours trying to work out what to do but Im none the wiser.

Is the online energy saver 8 considered a good deal still?

Are you using your annual kWh consumption figs on the comp site? Using monthly DD amounts does not give accurate results.
SP may still give you the same tariff discount on OES8, but that does not mean that you will not have the heavy increase that came into effect last week on overall pricing.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Just did it again using kwh and comparison is reporting cheapest deal is stil more expensive. I wonder if they have updated the prices for OES8 to reflect increases?

I'm losing faith in those type of sites, all they are interested in you doing is switching

The comparison sites are coming up with a negative saving though lol

Im thinking they are working on the pre increase prices for OES8, if not I may as well re-sign as nothing is as cheap (apparently!)

D'oh! Just read this in the small print of the email-
To make life easier, we’re offering to automatically extend your Online Energy Saver 8 (Dec 2011) Offer on 1st December 2010 until 30th November 2011. So if you want your deal extended there’s nothing for you to do. If you’d prefer not to accept the extension to your discounted offer and move to our standard monthly Direct Debit prices3

I have to let them know by the 17th Jan if I want to opt out having automatically renewed. OES8 just discounts the standard tariff by 3%as I understand it, so I think the recent price increase was 8% meaning an overall increase of 5%? I would think most suppliers are going up by at least 5% so would it be worth moving now and fixing it?

  • Did a re-check on a energy comparison websiyte and now its reported OES12 is better. It seems the new tarrifs have been added.

I too got negative savings... So it seems Scottish Power for me is good but only going from OES8 to OES12.

Will phone them tomorrow to get an idea what's going on.

They deliberately do this to confuse people.

    Regards
    Mark
  • I too am with Scottish Power and found that I was getting negative savings figures from comparison sites and I too was confused by their email and price increases for the Online Saver 8 contract. I phoned them and found out that the increase would mean an increase of 10.81% if use take duel fuel with them.
Energylinx do a good service by contacting me when the spot a better energy deal for me and they suggested that I move from SP to E.On with their Online saver 4 deal as their ar better discounts and this will save me around £157 per year. I spent some time asking about the savings.
Try using a comparison site and compare with the Scottish Power standard tariff prices and see what comes up.
