    Complain to your MP or equivalent but I don't know what you gain from it. It is cold, it is snowy, it is icy... slippery walkways are somewhat inevitable...

    Complain to your mum. Didn't she tell you to put on sensible shoes with nice thick non slip soles?

    I heard something interesting today and I wonder if it's true. The reason the pavements aren't gritted is that if the local council grit them and then someone slips on a patch of ice, then they have a claim. If the pavements aren't gritted, then the local Council have no liability if someone slips.

    Madness altogether.

    There is probably some truth in what bigcammy has said, I've heard similar.
    At the end of the day, perhaps this is one of the 'sensible' things that haven't been H&S blitzed yet?
    i.e.you can feel it's cold, you can see ice (for the most part), be careful, small steps, sensible footwear, gloves etc and say 'oops that hurt a bit' if you fall over.
    The problem with all this 'who's to blame so I can sue them' thinking is that SOMEONE has to pay, i.e. usually the taxpayer, or the consumer through raised prices.
    Don't get me wrong: if someone's truly been negligent then they deserve a financial penalty, however it seems there are more and more cases where it's nonsense to most.
    Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
    If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.
  • Just wondering why you want to know;

    Is it to make them aware? I am sure everyone knows that they are slippy.

    Is it to make a claim? I think you need to be reasonable under the circumstances - there is no way that all roads and walkways can be gritted. A bit of common sense and caution is needed. What if you fall in your driveway or your neighbours, are you going to claim?

    I poked myself in the eye with a pencil today - can I sue Stabler for not putting a cork on the end? then again if they did that I wouldn't be able to stick it in my ear to clear out the earwax...

    speaking of ears - I got a perforated eardrum a few months back while I was cleaning them.. who can I complain to?

    anyway might as well ask while I'm here - whats the best knife to use to get my toast out of the toaster as it seems to be stuck.
