Hi,
I was looking for a bit of advive for a friend. As above, single, self employed - salary under £600 pcm - flat sharing with a parent. Is there any financial support available to her? Maybe WTC? Is looking for extra work to boost income
Thanks in Advance

Tax credits is payable on an income of £600 per month. As long as over 25 and work for 30+ hours. Play with the calculator to see how much exactly. https://www.turn2us.entitledto.co.uk/entitlementcalculator.aspx:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Thanks - I have given her the info for both of those. Tax credits have turned down the claim because she was on a better income last year so have advised she ring up with a change of circumstances0

If she does that, tell her to keep a very close eye on her figures for this year and tell them immediately if it looks as though she may earn more than she predicts, or she will have an overpayment.
This is because she won't be covered by the income disregard if she tells them she will earn less this year than she did last year.0 -

£600 a month for over 30 hours a week.. thats below minimum wage. not sure if its a newly started up business but maybe its time to rethink the business plan, increase exposure, productlines etc.
suggested that last years income was more and didnt qualify for credits. i think concentrating on the business plan more then what benefits you can get are the way forward. plus if truly seeking another job to increase income. becareful getting another job after recieving WTC as it will bring into question actual working hours of current self employment. especially where earnings have become so low. if you have spare time to get second job then they may see it as if you might not be actually working over 30 hours0 -

To get WTC you need to be ALL of the following:
- over 25
- living alone in self-contained accommodation
- working more than 30 hours/week
- earning less than about £13,500.
Because your friend is living with their parent, I doubt they'd qualify at any age because they're not living alone.0
