I just called the bank and spoke to someone (not the lady I have been dealing with though as she'd already left the office), he said that because my solicitor hadn't contacted them about it, perhaps that means it's not a major problem.
My sister also pointed out that there have been plenty of other flats on the development (one in the same building as mine) that have been sold recently which means that they didn't have problems getting a mortgage.0 -

And the flats would have had to sell the first time round
I'm going to be frank here, but I think as a first time buyer, you're getting too worried about something that really isn't that important. If your searches or your surveys really did turn up something bad, then your solicitor really would be advising both you and your mortgage lender of the issues as they act on their behalf too.
The fact that the development is built on the site of, or near the site of something that doesn't exist anymore will not affect the value of property at all. Please stop worrying; you haven't discovered something people don't already know about and believe me, the developers would never have touched the land with a barge pole if their subsequent buyers weren't able to obtain mortgages.
If you pulled out of the purchase over something this trivial, I would feel incredibly sorry for your vendors.
