Laptop not allowing other webpages from main page

Hi, I am currently borrowing my dads laptop as my one has a virus:mad:

I am able to use the internet to view websites but my problem is it will show you the main page, but if there are tabs for other pages on the main page and you click on it, the page will start to load but is blank. The timer shows up on the page but nothing happens.

I have allowed pop up boxes and deleted cookies, but it is still not working. The laptop has windows XP.

Any help would be much appreciated.:)

Thanks for responding so quickly, I am not computer literate at all so please bear with me:D

My laptop is being fixed at the moment and I don't have it, so my dad has lent me his and this one allows me on the internet but does not let me see additional pages which pop up.

Do I still need to do as you asked above to find out what is wrong and correct my dads one?

    Many thanks

McAfee or no AV at all-little diffference really...
Avast will do the job, but you'll need to clean up the system first as advised by Browntoa.
On yours. get rid of AVG, which is equally ineffective. Use Avast, Avira or MSE (or Kaspersky is free with Barclays online banking).

Just added malwarebytes too, once I have the log I will post it. So far nothing infected is showing on malwarebytes. Full scan done on avast and it was fine no infected files.
