help on bulbs & seeds project please
I' m looking at helping out a local charity near me next year and i had an idea of doing a boot sale around Mother's Day and making some filled pots to sell to raise money.
My husband is going to make me 20 wooden pots 12" x 12" as he has loads of spare decking left from the garden and i'll line them out and paint them pretty colours.
What i need help with is something easy to grow and advice on when i should plant the bulbs/seeds (i hope i haven't already missed the deadline ).
I thought with Mothering Sunday being on the 3rd April, i might do the Boot Sale on the Sunday 27th March 2011, I don't want to turn up with 20 pots just filled with soil and nothing sprouted through, but then again i don't want to turn up with them all flowered and dying back !!
I have a very small greenhouse (plastic covered, not glass), when should i plant the bulbs/seeds and what would look nice in pots ?? Any help with this would be great as i'm not green fingered at all

What are you wanting to plant?
What I would do is some research on what flowers around the start of april, and sow/plant them into modules now and then transplant them around the time.
However - flower-wise I think you are pushing it a bit. Daffs might be ready but would have needed planting a few months back......ditto snowdrops. It's rare to get something planted and flowering in 4 months, even if it wasn't winter in between. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

If it were me; I'd sow tomatoes, peppers, basil and pot them all up together and sell them as mixed veg pasta sauce planters. Pop a few spring onions in and you'll be onto a winner. Or hedge your bets and sow a few different things and if any are ready then, you can sell them earlier and leave the others until later. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
