Hi all,
This is being posted on behalf on my ex partner as he doesn't have internet access so excuse me if I dont know all the facts.
I'll try and keep a long story short - He was off sick last year after a knee op and returned in Sep 09. He was supposed to have light duties but actually had a job that caused more pressure on his knee so ended up going back for operation number 2 in June this year.
He has since been off work but his GP and OH at work have signed him fit to return about 2 months ago. His bosses aren't having him back yet as they can not find suitable light duties for him.
The last letter he received from them stated they may consider dismissal under the grounds of capability.
Last week he received a letter informing him his company will be making redundancies. It mentions about voluntary redundancies and to contact HR for more advice etc.
He is thinking of asking for voluntary redundancy as its looking more and more likely he wont be able to return to his old job and the chances of him getting offered light duties look slim too. Would this be the best thing to do? Would he even be considered for it?
He isn't a member of the Union (as much as I tried to encourage him to do so) so they cant help but I will give him the contact numbers for ACAS to call them?
I've told him to contact HR and get all the info they can provide as he sin't at work so cant see the intranet and I doubt his line managers would call him to let him know.
The letter says it will be letting people know by March if not before so would this be the start of the 90 day consultation period?
Thanks for any help.

Yes, they are paying him half pay now.
I have a friend who works in HR who seems to think they would let him have voluntary redundancy as it gets rid of him without him staying on their books as long term sick.
She is going to look over the paperwork when it comes through and give him some advice.Lightbulb moment Dec 2005 - debt £23700

Well - lets hope he takes any sensible advice he gets on it....
I swore at him quietly when I read that you had tried to get him to join the Union but he had refused. It was along the lines of "Stupid ****** - fancy not joining a Union is his position the *****". He really should have listened to you.
Anyway - good luck with this.0
