Quinn Direct -- BEWARE

Hi all,

Beware of insuring with QUINN-DIRECT motor insurance if you have more than 5 years no claims bonus.

Their policy:- is if you have '5 or more years' you get the maximum no claims discount but what they don’t tell you is that when your policy ends with them they will only issue you a no claims letter stating '5 years'

i.e. if you have 10 years no claims discount then move to Quinn-direct for a year then chose to move to another insurer after the year is up you will only receive a letter stating you have '5 years no claims' (no your eyes are not deceiving you) not 11 years as you would have thought.

So most insurers 10 + 1 = 11
But to Quinn-direct 10 + 1 = 5

They also reduce unprotected no claims bonuses from anything above 5 years down to 2 years (where most insurers reduce it by a percentage of around 20-40%)
I.e. sign with Quinn-Direct with 10 years no claims have a little bump you lose 8 years of your bonus!!! Oh and if you protect it your actually only protecting 5 years not the 10 you had.

So beware of accepting a quote from Quinn-Direct if you have more than 4 years no claims.

Are they allowed to do this? Advice please from any legally minded people would be of interest.

Many insurers do exactly the same.

Traditionally ncd only counted for up to 5 years and therefore it was easier to build an IT system that only counted up to 5 rather than one that counted up to 100 but always knew that any number greater than 5 equaled 5 when it came to discount, losing it etc etc.

Most insures would take you down to 3 years ncd if you had an accident with unprotected ncd of 5 or more years so there is a difference here.
